The name Gordon comes from gor-dun, which means ‘hill fort’ and derives from Berwickshire. In the 14th century, however, the Gordons moved north into Aberdeenshire where the Lord of Gordon, Sir Adam Gordon, became a friend of the Scots freedom fighter William Wallace."
